Our walls won’t stay bare for long. Still moving in. (Photo of our old Mac Lab.)

Read the Board!

And please follow the instructions. This applies to everyone without exception.

⇒REQUIRED: Work from the top of the page to the bottom. When you reach the videos, watch the current day’s video(s)—and follow the instructions—before doing anything else.

IMPORTANT: Login to the Mac Lab every day.

Week 01

Rather than lecture, the day’s instructions are always delivered via brief videos and written instructions. You’ll begin each day on the 411 and you’ll always be aware of what we’re doing. Well, you will if you pay attention to details. You never know when a hidden quest will appear in the fine print. 😛 If you miss a day, the day’s instructions will always be at your fingertips. Got it? Good! Then let’s get to it.

IMPORTANT: Apologies for beginning with a downer but the district has asked that we not stream music (Spotify, Pandora, YouTube, etc.) and I’d like to ask if you’d please not use your phone/device in class.* Once you’ve purchased your Guild you may listen to music via your phone/device (with headphones) so long as you maintain an A.

*If you need to use your phone in class, please ask. If it’s actually important, I’ll say yes.

Now, on to the videos…

Please Read (Additional content added daily)

Welcome to the Mac Lab, Visitor. We have a lot of ground to cover so let’s get a few things out of the way.

The Mac Lab is a self-paced, student-centered, gamified learning environment. If you play by the rules and try your best, you’ll earn an A. If you begin working before the tardy bell and continue working through the ending bell each day, you’ll earn over 10,000 Gold this year. Well, you’ll actually earn far more than that. The 10K is yours just for showing up early and playing by our rules. We have no homework. We have no tests. You’ll learn by doing and in doing you’ll show what you know—or don’t know—each and every day.

The Mac Lab is widely known for stellar artwork like this and this but we also code, animate, produce videos, and lots of other stuff.

For those who work, the Mac Lab rocks. For those who don’t, the Mac Lab sucks. If you’re unwilling to play by the rules and try your best, please do us both a favor, see your counselor, and find another elective.

Before I create your Mac Lab account, I’d like to ask you to read something. It’ll take you 25 to 30 minutes. It took me 25 to 30 hours to write. If you don’t finish today, you may read it on your own time or finish it tomorrow. Fair enough?

Okay, please read (re)Imagine then return to this page.

So, Visitor, now that you understand our mission, are you interested in joining us? Would you like to try to change the world, to make it a better place, and to help move our education system into the 21st century? If so, please fill out this application and I’ll activate your account. If it says you’ve already filled it out (but you haven’t) use this form instead (but only fill out one form). Meanwhile, check out the links (above) until your account is activated.

In the Game

⇒REQUIRED: Once your account is activated, click the POD link in the nav bar (at the top of the page) and begin working through the First Things First quests—in order. HINT: Take your time and pay attention to detail. Since there are no tests, you’ll show what you know—or don’t know—in your actions each and every day. (Besides walking around and observing, the Boss can see every computer in the room on one of those big monitors on his desk.)

⇒REQUIRED (Time-Sensitive Quest): Week 01 Digital Portfolio Entry (Deadline extended to Monday, August 22 @10:00 pm)
