  step 1: Let's say that you created something with strokes but no fill. (Figure A)

  step 2: And for some reason you wanted the strokes to be filled with an image. (Figure B)

  step 3: Yes, we could turn the strokes into a mask to reveal the fill but there may be times when a mask would hinder later steps in your creation. (Figure C)

  step 4: The answer is as follows. Select the lines and Modify > Shape > Convert Lines to Fills. (Figure D)

  step 5: Select the bitmap, Modify > Break Apart (Command-B), select the Eyedropper Tool (I), and sample the image by clicking on it. (Figure E)

  step 6: The rest is as easy as click, click, click. (Figure F)
