project: A word About these Tutorials

description: On this page you will learn how best to use the following tutorials. An image (at right when relevant) reflects the objective of specific tutorials.

Files: You will find information about relevant files (if any) here.

•Tip: Command-Tab is the keyboard shortcut to jump back and forth between the two most recently used applications (Alt-Tab on a PC). When following these tutorials Command-Tab between Flash MX and Internet Explorer to work efficiently.

step 1: The tutorials are laid out in step-by-step format. Brief descriptions supplement verbal instructions. Still image screen captures (Figure A) as well as movies (Figure B) are used extensively.

•Note: To play (or pause) movie click the button at the lower left corner.

step 2: A phrase such as "Insert > Keyframe" means navigate to the Menu (at the top of the screen) to complete the instruction. (Figure C)

step 3: Since this class is taught on Macs, keyboard shortcuts are Mac-specific. If you use a PC, substitute Control for Command, Alt for Option, Enter for Return, and Right-Click for Control-Click.

•Example: In Flash MX the Mac shortcut for Control > Test Movie is Command-Return. On a PC it is Control-Enter. In these tutorials I will direct you to Control > Test Movie (Command-Return).  (With the shortcut in parentheses.)

step 4: I try to sneak in extra tips and techniques wherever possible. For example, in Frame-By-Animation 01 and 02, the concepts of Editing Multiple Frames, Duplicating Frames, and Reversing Frames are introduced. Links and extra screen shots are used more frequently in the early tutorials to help you get up to speed.

•Final Note: These tutorials focus on fundamentals. Once you understand the fundamentals of Flash MX you will be better prepared to create your own "flashier" animations.

Experience, Experiment, and Enjoy!

  Now, on to The Interface.
