project: Editing Instances 02

description: In this tutorial you will learn how to edit Instances to modify an existing animation so that it looks like the one at right

Files: The m_t_edit_01b.fla file is in the fla_files folder.

step 1: Open the m_t_edit_01b.fla file (Figure A)

  A

step 2: Command-Return to Test Movie. (Figure B)

  B

•Note: Boring! How 'bout we add some color to jazz up the animation?

step 3: Click on the second keyframe in Layer 3 and look at the Properties Panel. Note that the panel is set to Frame. (Figure C)

  C

step 4: Click on the already selected instance on the stage and note how the panel changes to indicate that the instance is now active. (Figure D)

  D

step 5: Note the color option. (Figure E)

  E

step 6: Change the setting from None to Tint. (Figure F)

  F

step 7: Change the color and the percentage of Tint (100% is a solid color). (Figure G)

  G

step 8: Command-Return to Test Movie. (Figure H)

  H

step 9: Repeat for each keyframe in Layers 1 and 2. (Figure I)

  I

step 10: Be sure to select the same color for the first and last keyframe in each layer or you'll have a sudden color change when the animation loops. (i.e. The color of both the first and last keyframe in Layer 2 is orange.) (Figures I, J)

  J

step 11: Open the Library (Command-L) and note the there is but one symbol for the three instances on the stage. Editing an instance does not change the symbol. (Figure K)

  K

step 12: Command-Return to Test Movie. (Figure L)

  L

step 13: You can also edit the size, shape, or even add detail to an instance if you want. Experiment and have fun. Next up: Editing Symbols.
