ARTS 1
Defining Your Site Once your site is defined, Dreamweaver will keep track of all your files so long as you work through the Site Window. Don't worry about the particulars right now, just follow these instructions TO THE LETTER and your site will work as required.
Launch Dreamweaver If the Site Window is not visible, press F8
or navigate to Site > Site Files
The usual way to set up a new site is to choose New Site... from the Site menu but since you'll be sharing this program with students in other classes it's best if we set it up another way
The pull down menu we'll use is set to the last site used by the program (see cursor below)
Clicking on the pull down menu reveals the Edit Sites...
command
The Edit Sites dialog box opens
The big ol' Site Definition dialog box opens
Name your site 03_art and click on the Local Root Folder icon (as shown below)
Click on the pull down menu to locate your folder
You will probably have to begin by accessing the hard drive
Then you can open your folder
Once inside your folder, click on the New Folder button
The New Folder dialog box opens
Name your new folder art (never use CAPS or spaces when naming files for the Web) and hit Return (or click Create)
Click Choose to designate the art folder as your Local Root Folder
Click on the Default Images Folder icon
Open the art folder
Click on the New Folder button
Name your new folder images and hit Return (or click Create)
Choose the images folder
Your Site Definition should look EXACTLY like the one shown below
If your looks like the one shown above, click OK
Click Done in the Edit Sites dialog box
Our Site Window now looks like the one shown below
Control-click on your Local Root Folder to access the contextual menu
Choose New File from the contextual menu
An untitled HTML file appears in your Site Window
Highlight untitled
Type index and hit Return
Control-click on your Local Root Folder and select New File (again) from the contextual menu
Highlight untitled
Type 01 and hit Return
Repeat the process until you have 12 numbered pages
Dreamweaver will organize your files in alphabetical/numerical order
Congratulations! You've done it. Now on to Page Layout
