Using Pixel Fonts

Pixel fonts can be quite useful, but only when used correctly. If you want to use any of the fonts you see (above) you better follow all these steps or you won't be happy with the results.

You must use them at a specific point size. Each font (above) has a number after its name. That number is the point size you must use—that size or a multiple thereof. In other words, if the font title is: Energy Extended Bold 14 px, you must set the font to multiples of 14 pixels (14, 28, 42, etc.). If you try to use the font at 22 pixels it will look terrible!

You must position the font on whole pixels. Type something, switch to the Selection Tool, and look at the Info Panel. The X and Y coordinates must be whole numbers (xx.0 not xx.3 or xx.1 -- get it?). The Height will be the same as the size you set for the font (in this case, 14.0. The Width is unimportant. Just leave it alone. The only changes you make in the Info Panel are to the X and Y coordiates.

Do not use BOLD or ITALIC or KERNING (the A/V setting). Keep the Character Positions set to normal.
