To resize an image, navigate to Image > Image Size...

The Image Size dialog box opens

If you want to maintain the proportions of your image, make sure Constrain Proportions is checked

For best results check Resample Image: Bicubic

When you enter the new width, the height is automatically filled (with Constrain Proportions checked)

Here's our resized, crooked scan

The key to straightening the image is hidden under the Eyedropper Tool

Click and hold to access the Measure Tool

Note: The little black triangle next to some of the tools indicates there are other tools you may access in this same way

These movies demonstrate two ways to use the Measure Tool

The idea is to establish a line that represents true vertical

As you can see in the second movie, you can reposition the endpoints after drawing the initial line

Navigate to Image > Rotate Canvas > Arbitrary...

The Rotate Canvas dialog box opens with the angle calculated for you

Play the movie to see how Photoshop does the hard work for you

Now the image is straight but it needs to be cropped

Play this movie to see that your initial crop selection need not be perfect

When you are satisfied, hit return and the crop is applied

There you go, it's resized, straightened, and cropped!
